Cosmetic / Facial Acupuncture
Also known as facial revitalisation, is a non-surgical cosmetic anti-aging treatment or ‘natural facelift’. It has none of the side effects or risks associated with surgery. It encourages blood flow to the face, stimulates new cellular growth and promotes lymph drainage.
This treatment specifically works on the face and neck, but also combines the holistic approach of correcting any imbalances in the individual’s general health.
Tiny hair thin needles are inserted just into the skin. Techniques such as gua sha massage, auricular acupressure and Korean hand therapy are also used for their additional therapeutic benefits.
These various methods work together to:
- Boost collagen production
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improve cellular regeneration
- Improve muscle tone
- Reduction of puffiness and dark circles under the eyes
- Decreased tendency to sagging and jowls
- Balancing of oiliness or dryness
- Tightening of pores
- Promotes healthier glowing skin
- Improve complexion and skin tone
A course of 12 treatments is indicated over 6-12 weeks, and an improvement is usually seen after 4-6 sessions. The treatment includes a Chinese medicine diagnosis, individually tailored treatment plan, gentle acupuncture and/or gua sha massage and also Korean hand therapy and auricular acupressure to enhance the positive effects, followed by relaxation time. One session lasts 1.5 hours.
Does it really work?
A report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture in 1996, reported that in 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture, 90% had marked effects after one course of treatments. The effects included: the skin becoming more radiant with improved elasticity of facial muscles, levelling of wrinkles and overall feeling of revitalisation.
